If you're not new to the world of Feng Shui, you might already know that there are different schools/methods of Feng Shui (and if you are knew to this info, check out my other post where we dive into each one).
Perhaps you've tried a version and the energy still feels off. It could be because you're not using the right version of Feng Shui for your situation. Want to gain clarity to better understand the best method for resolving the energy in your home? Keep reading to learn about each school of Feng Shui and the benefits/applications it is best used for.
The Landscape/Form School
The Landscape School (or Form School) is the original and first school of Feng Shui. It was originally used to understand the energies of surrounding natural formations, such as mountains, rivers, and lakes, to help locate villages, houses, and cemeteries.
Since much of this school of Feng Shui focuses on form, such as the shape of your room or the arrangement of your bedroom furniture, it's an ideal method of Feng Shui to apply for space planning purposes and new construction/remodels of your home.
This method of Feng Shui also takes into account more Interior Design, as the five elements (a cornerstone teaching of Feng Shui) are represented in various colors, shapes, and materials. If you can find a Feng Shui practitioner who can blend the energetics of Feng Shui into the design aesthetics of your space, you're able to benefit the most from this version of Feng Shui.

The Compass School
The Compass School originated during the 900s. Unlike it's predecessor, the Form School, the Compass School focuses more on calculations and astrology. Using a specific compass called the Luo Pan, the Compass School of Feng Shui locates specific directions of your home and how the difference energies are influencing and impacting your space.
There are two main sub-schools of the Compass Method. The first is the Flying Star Method, which uses the construction date of your home and the current year, looks at how these energies are influencing your space. The Eight Mansions Method uses your personal astrology and your home's orientation to look at how these energies are impacting one another.
Whichever version of the Compass School you use, I have found this method particularly useful for people who are already experiencing certain disturbances in their life and their homes energy. I have had countless clients come to me, telling me about their health issues or their failing relationships. Upon examining their home's energy, 9/10 times there is a negative energy that is influencing that specific sector of life. Understanding your home's energy, you are able to prevent negative qi from entering your life and to encourage more positive energies to enter.

The Black Hat Sect
The Black Hat Sect is the newest and most modern version of Feng Shui. It originated in California in the 1970s and is often considered "watered-down Feng Shui" by classic practitioners. That is because this version of Feng Shui incorporates more New Age spirituality and symbolism into the Feng Shui applications and cures.
Even though this version is more Westernized, it is very effective at manifesting certain outcomes and desires for yourself and your life. That's because this version of Feng Shui uses more ritual, symbolism, and taps into the sub-conscious, allowing certain energies to enter your home based on the certain cures and rituals you add to your space. More money, new relationships, improved health? These are just some of the reasons why someone would use this version of Feng Shui.
There is no 'perfect school' of Feng Shui. Each one has specific purposes and applications in which it works the best. My recommendation - use all three together. Because when you're able to see how your home's furnishings or orientation is impacting and blocking your manifestations or how your wealth sector might need some extra fire qi because it has a negative energy according to the Compass school, you're able to unlock a more harmonious energy that your house deeply craves.
